A native of Albany, Georgia, the multi-faceted pianist, composer and conductor TERRY LOWRY annually appears in concerts throughout the United States.

Extending the tradition of the great virtuosos of the 19th Century, Terry Lowry’s recital programs consist of original compositions, standard repertoire from the past and present and improvisations on themes provided by members of his audiences. In 1994 he was added to the prestigious list of International Steinway Artists. Recent performances have been heard in New York City (St. Paul’s Chapel, The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, The Riverside Church), Washington, DC (National Cathedral, Mount Vernon), Savannah, Berlin (Französischer Dom), Leipzig (St. Thomaskirche), Mannheim and Weimar (Liszt School of Music), and at the universities of Alabama and West Georgia. In November 2010, he played the first solo recital in the inaugural season of John Brown University’s Berry Performing Arts Center. Mr. Lowry was also heard in a live performance on Georgia Public Radio.

Highlights of Terry Lowry’s current season include recital performances throughout the Southeastern United States, including a return recital at Georgia’s Shorter College.

Terry Lowry studied both piano and composition with his father, Terry Lowry, Sr., with whom he extensively toured in duo-piano recitals. He received his Bachelor’s of Music degree in piano performance from Shorter College, subsequently earning a Master of Music degree in music composition from the University of Alabama. His teachers include William Knight and Amanda Penick (piano); Peter DeWitt, Craig First and Marvin Johnson (composition); Fred Goosen (counterpoint); John Ratledge and Simon Carrington (conducting).

As a composer, Terry Lowry has written over 200 works. During the 2007-2008 season, he premiered his moving, 14-movement, solo piano work, Stations of the Cross, in the United States and at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar, Germany. He has received commissions from the Verona International Choral Festival (the oratorio Jephtha), Carroll Symphony Orchestra (three piano concertos), Etowah Chamber Orchestra (Suite for E-flat Trumpet and Strings), University of Alabama Tuba Quartet (Contemplation), the vocal ensemble RareSong (motet) and numerous soloists and choirs.

Terry Lowry is the Music Director and Conductor of the Carroll Symphony Orchestra, a post he has held since 2002. Under his leadership, the CSO has been acclaimed for a series of innovative outreach programs, including the “Carroll Symphony Orchestra Young Composer Competition,” “Destination * University,” “Discover Music” and the “Carroll Symphony Orchestra Teacher Resource Program.” In 2011, he was appointed Organist/Choir Director of Decatur’s St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, while continuing as Composer-in-Residence at Marietta’s Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Mr. Lowry was an adjunct professor of music at Shorter College and the University of West Georgia.

"Mr. Lowry played his great piano composition Stations of the Cross in our concert hall. His excellent performance was greatly appreciated by a thankful audience, as he is one of the few performers on a high artistic level, who actually continues the tradition of the composer-performer of the romantic period, as well as the tradition of improvising in concerts. His tremendous piano skills met the high standards of our school and let us share a wonderful experience."
Prof. Gero Schmidt-Oberländer
Vice President for Teaching & Research

"Terry Lowry, Carrollton’s multi-talent musical genius is given credit for the outstanding event. After you hear a concert by the Carroll Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Terry Lowry, you will never again doubt the thrill and power of great music."
THE TIMES-GEORGIAN (Carrollton, GA)

"The choral compositions of Terry Lowry should be in the reference library of all churches, high schools, colleges and professional choral groups. He has a true gift and understanding for writing choral music suited for all levels. Not only are choral groups refreshed with Mr. Lowry’s new music, but audiences are always impressed and appreciative."
Todd Chandler, Choral Director
JACKSON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

"The best way I can express my opinion of Terry Lowry is as follows: some of the workmanship of J.S. Bach, the easy facileness of Mozart and the communicative power and charisma of Bernstein, accented with a dash of Horowitz."
